American Idol XIII Top 13 : This Is Me: My review

AMERICAN IDOL 2014 TOP 13 : MY REVIEW

Overall, not an impressive night. The theme was "This Is Me", and some didn't really do that.

Caleb, Jena, Emily, Alex and Jessica really shun through, while Kristen, Dexter and CJ didn't.

Dexter Roberts - Aw Naw by Chris Young

5/10 - This was not good enough i'm afraid. The vocals were sloppy, and the song really didn't do him any favours. I expect him to be safe as country is really strong in America, but if it was up to me, he would be in trouble, serious trouble, but seeing it's America, he would last a long time.

Malaya Watson - Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars

6/10 - Malaya has been one of my favourites from the series, and has been from the start. But tonight, she really disappointed me. Yes, it was fun, and way better than Dexter, but the vocals really were disappointing
I still love her, and I hope she is safe tonight, I really do. Also, I don't know if this was her. The theme was "This Is Me", and I really see her as Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston, not Bruno Mars.

Kristen O' Connor - Beautiful Disaster by Kelly Clarkson

5/10 - I really loved her in Hollywood when she sang "Unconditionally" as her solo, but this was NOT her best. The beginning was really nice and I actually thought she could be safe, but then the chorus kicked in and it all fell down from there. I really hope she does well, but after that, I don't see her making it to the top 12.

Ben Briley - Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash

6.5/10 - I Liked this, definitely the best so far. I liked his tone with the track, even when I found it a bit confusing. The crowd loves it also. I really see him going far, and after this, he will be safe. I also think he will be popular with the voters after getting voted in as the 15th boy in the semi final's. Hope he does well.

CJ Harris - Radio by Darius Rucker

4.5/10 - I liked him in the semi finals, and I was shocked that he wasn't voted through. In fact, I don't think he will be popular because of the fact that he his a wildcard. Tonight, I'm afraid, was horrible. I didn't like the song he chose. He is more John Meyer than Darius Rucker. I won't be surprised if he leaves tonight.

MK Nobilette - Satisfaction by Allen Stone

7/10 - Definitely the best so far. Her tone is just amazing. She really suites Allen stone and it was great. It could have been better if she chose another Allen song, but she was the first contestant to show who she was. I also love her stage presence. I think and hope the public vote for her.

Majesty Rose - Tightrope by Janelle Monae

8/10 - Loved her ever since her first audition, and I still love her tonight. I think the pace of the song was a bit too fast for her but she sang it exactly how she was supposed to and the performance and vocals were spot on. I love the way she works the stage and I also love her voice. She will be definitely safe tonight and she may be a frontrunner here.

Jena Irene - The Scientist by Coldplay

8.5/10 - I was absolutely shocked that she wasn't in the top 5 girls, but was extremely happy she got chosen a wildcard, but that is what worries me. She might not make it far because of that. This performance was the best so far, hands down. Her tone just makes the song she sings so unique and special. her voice is just powerful and strong. I hope she makes it far. She is definitely safe after that.

Alex Preston - A Beautiful Mess by Jason Mraz

9/10 - I never heard of this song, but after this performance, I love it. I love his tone, and with this song, makes him one of the competitors for the title. It seems effortless with Alex, because every song he sings, he makes me get hooked into the performance. Definitely the best of the night. He should sing more songs like this.

Jessica Meuse - The Crow & The Butterfly by Shinedown

9/10 - She just matched best of the night with Alex. I was not expecting this from her. I thought she was just a country artist but now she just proved she can sing any song. She sang it soooo well, and with the rasp of her voice, she can go places. Jennifer says it was her favourite vocal, and I agree. Hope she is safe for a long time.

Emily Piriz - Glitter In The Air by Pink

8.5/10 - Yet another standout performance this week. Emily always impresses me and tonight is no exception. This song is perfect for her. Her voice is one of the best here. I agree with Keith and Harry, this was one of my favourite vocals tonight. I hope America votes for her, because she deserves to go all the way. She is one of my Favourites.

Sam Woolf - Unwell by Matchbox Twenty

7/10 - This performance was good, although I would of liked a better song to show who he is. Maybe Ed Sheeran or Jason Mraz. It was still a good vocal performance either way. He was better than some contestants tonight, but some were a lot better. He needs to pick better songs if he stands a chance at winning, but for now, he is middle of the pack.

Caleb Johnson - Pressure and Time by Rival Sons

8.5/10 - He has always been one of the best here, and he stood out tonight. The song suited him and it showed who he is as an artist, which is the theme. I hope he picks songs that aren't rock, and maybe pick a ballad. He is still good at what he does. Still one of the best.

My Top 3: Jessica Meuse, Alex Preston and Emily Piriz

Actual Bottom 3: Kristen O' Connor, MK Nobilette and Malaya Watson
Eliminated: Kristen O' Connor

I am sad that Kristen left, even though her performance wasn't really that good. I wanted to see if she would grow in the competition. Also, the fact that MK and Malaya was in the bottom 3, it was no shock that she left. I'm shocked that Dexter and CJ were safe. Maybe next week.
